Town Councillor  - Vacancy

Applications Now Sought

We are currently inviting applications for the role of Town Councillor.

Closing date for applications: 13 March 2026
Interviews: 23 March 2026 (evening)

A Town Councillor is an elected representative who works on behalf of the local community within a town council. Their role is to represent residents, raise and address local issues, contribute to decision-making on local services and projects, and help shape policies that benefit the town. Town councillors attend council meetings, participate in committees, and work with residents, local organisations, and council officers to improve the local area.

Standing Orders are the formal rules that govern how a council conducts its meetings and makes decisions. They set out procedures for debates, voting, agenda management, and the roles of councillors and officers. The purpose of standing orders is to ensure meetings are conducted fairly, transparently, and consistently, helping the council operate effectively and in accordance with legal requirements.

To help you prepare to apply for the role of Town Councillor, we encourage you to read the Council’s Standing Orders, Code of Conduct, and Financial Regulations. These documents explain how the council operates, the standards expected of councillors, and the procedures that guide decision-making.

You can find these documents on the Policy page of our website.

Further (general) information on the role of a Town Councillor is available from the Local Government Association
